Napier: Art Deco Capital of New Zealand
The Fiber Arts workshop that I am attending is in Napier, New Zealand. Napier sits on the Pacific Ocean and is located on the east side of the North Island. It amazes me to think that I look out on the same Pacific Ocean, thousands of miles away.
The city is known as the Art Deco capital of New Zealand. An earthquake in 1931 destroyed most of the buildings, and thus, when the rebuilding began, it was done in Art Deco style. Each year, Napier celebrates an Art Deco week, where festivities revolve around anything and everything Art Deco.
Here area few buildings for you to see.
Very inspiring!
