Italian Store Windows
There is nothing quite like window shopping in Italy. I find that if you see something you want to remember, you need to take the photo right away... because if you don't, the window will change.

Texture... a trend for Fall/Winter 14/15 Pitti Filati
One yarn display |
I just finished two days at the Pitti Filati, which is a trend show for yarns that takes place in Florence Italy, twice a year.
If I had to pick one statement to make, regarding trends, it would be TEXTURE. The yarns are textured, the stitch patterns are textured, and the garments are textured.
Here are a few samples of different ways texture was created in the knit fabrics themselves.

My new little camera sometimes appears to move itself into am auto creative mode.
Here is a shot I took, with the camera doing its own thing.

Denim Reconstruction
Last weekend, I went to Los Angeles to the Fashion Symposium to cheer my students on. A team of three participated in a denim deconstruction contest. They began with a pair of white denim jeans and a bag full of 'stuff'. They are given 30 minutes to recreate a garment.
Here is Eva, coming down the runway wearing the team's adorable jacket, and carrying a purse that they created by weaving cut strips of the denim cloth.
Behind her is a bathing suit combo created by another community college.

Fashion Illustrator in the Pompidieu
Here's a challenge. While in the Pompidieu Museum in Paris last month, I shot a photo os a fashion illustrator's work. She designed for the cover of Annabelle magazine. I have been trying to track her name down, online.
Des anyone know who she is?
I love her work.
Oh yes..... I believe 'she' is a 'she'.

How do they do it? Drapery in Stone
To me,it is one of the wonders of the world. I teach Fashion History, and thus, we study Greek and Roman costume. So, I am completely boggled by how amazing the stone sculptures of past reveal the drapery of, and the clinging of the cloth. They are after all, ....stone.

Upcoming Stitch Painter Project
From a photo taken of an optical design at the Louvre's Decorative Art Museum. I want to see if I can retain the illusion. It looks linear and basically simple, but is it?

Cool Antique Mannequin
I am behind, as usual, as I am back in the States, and catching up. Here is a shot of a mannequin/dress form from an Antique market in Paris.
If only it would have fit in my suitcase.

Art and Cultural Sites of Paris
If you want culture, then, this is the place.
At L'Orangerie, you can see large Monet works plus other Impressionist paintings.
Stroll through the Tuilleries....
En route to the D'Orsay, where you can view amazing art in an old train station.
And, at the Pompideu Center, you can find the best modern art collection (in my opinion), in the world.

What can I say?
I am like everyone else, enthralled by a painting.

Fashion as art, or is it?
I thought this T-shirt was a possible Italian take on the city of Los Angeles.

Words Around Us
Happy New Year!
I've been going through my photos from the past year and have to smile at the many interesting use of words I see on the street, and in public places. So here we go. Starting in Barcelona, Spain.
The Museum of Art
One of the doors at Gaudi's famous church, Sagrada Familia, still being constructed, having commenced in 1882.
